Weekly Round-up (Nov 15-19, 2021)

I’m getting asked by so many folks if being on Council is what I thought. It absolutely is - long hours in service of residents, loads of reading and meeting prep, and then lots of sitting listening, learning, and deciding! Here are just a few highlights of another packed week.
WINTER PANDEMIC RESPONSE:
Council received for information the plans and details to address the gap in shelter day and overnight space during the 2021/2022 Winter Season. The following day, the Province announced funding to support the City's winter Pandemic response. While this is much needed funding, we need to continue to work with other levels of government to provide affordable and safe housing.
CITY HALL SCHOOL:
It was my first time getting to speak with students in the City Hall School! I was honoured to meet with a class from Major General School (Griesbach) and a class at St. Angela Catholic School (Wellington). Thank you to all the students and their teachers for inviting me to your class! Click below for information on City Hall School.

ALBERTA MUNICIPALITIES CONVENTION:
This week municipal leaders from across Alberta’s municipalities gathered at the Alberta Municipalities Convention; formerly known as the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA). Together we have strength in advocating for support on similar challenges local governments are facing and meeting and learning from so many inspirational leaders across the province was invaluable.
SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!
We saw our first big snow dump this week. Here are a few resources if you have questions or inquiries related to snow clearing.

PUBLIC SERVICE JOBS STAY PUBLIC:
This week the City of Edmonton and the Amalgamated Transit Union 569 (ATU) released a joint statement to announce that an agreement was reached; bus cleaning services will remain in-house and not contracted out. I am happy to see all parties work together to come to a resolution that meets all parties' needs including keeping costs down. Thank you ATU members for your dedication to providing essential services to our City!
FIFA WORLD CUP 2026:
I was honoured to show my support for the City’s bid by attending the game at Commonwealth Stadium on Tuesday. It may have been chilly outside but Team Canada was on fire! Did you watch?!
Have a great weekend. Stay safe and warm!
