Weekly Reflection (May 9 - 13, 2022)

I want to end the week on a high note and share a few highlights with some good news for our City!

Happy Friday everyone! I want to end the week on a high note and share a few highlights with some good news for our City!

JUNOs ANNOUNCEMENT:

Edmonton is officially set to host the 2023 JUNO Awards! The last time Edmonton hosted was in 2004. The JUNOs will be broadcast from Rogers Place on May 12, 2023 and the event is expected to generate an economic impact of $8 million for our city!

PUBLIC WASHROOMS:

Everyone deserves access to clean and safe public washroom facilities. While the City previously implemented a temporary closure of several transit station washrooms, last week the majority of the transit washroom facilities were reopened with enhanced cleaning and safety measures. Additionally, the Mobile Washroom Project is up and running with up to 12 mobile washroom trailers being located around the city.

MAYOR’S STATE OF THE CITY:

On Tuesday, Mayor Amarjeet Sohi gave his inaugural State of the City speech. I was happy to attend alongside my Council colleagues to chat with community and business leaders in Edmonton. Click here to watch Mayor Sohi’s State of the City speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fiy-jo6caUY

PRIDE CORNER:

The corner of Whyte Ave and 104 Street will officially be proclaimed as “Pride Corner”! The City will be presenting the Proclamation at Pride Corner tonight at 7:30 pm.

Follow @pridecorneronwhyte on Instagram to learn more! “The recognition of Pride Corner as a safe space to support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and protest against homophobia and hate is an essential step in building a more inclusive and welcoming city for everyone.”

Lastly - heads up that my next Facebook Live will next week on Tuesday, May 17th at 7pm. I’ll be posting the link soon. Looking forward to great conversations!

Have a great weekend folks!
